Neil Murphy

OB/GYN physician, Southcentral Foundation and Alaska Native Medical Center.
ASCH member since 1987; past president and longtime board leader.
Former President of the International Union for Circumpolar Health.
Research focus: diabetes, HPV, tobacco cessation, and circumpolar health history.

Biography

Neil has worked in women’s health across Alaska for more than three decades, including service in Bethel, Sitka, and Anchorage. Since 1993, he has practiced in the OB/GYN department at the Alaska Native Medical Center and currently works with Southcentral Foundation.

Neil has played a major role in advancing circumpolar health collaboration, serving as ASCH President (2000–2008) and later as President of the International Union for Circumpolar Health. He has edited international conference proceedings, contributed to journal publications, and helped steward the Jens Peder Hart Hansen Memorial Fund since its creation. His research interests include diabetes in pregnancy, HPV vaccination, tobacco cessation, and documenting the history of circumpolar health.

Outside of Work

Neil enjoys staying connected to the community and mentoring emerging leaders in circumpolar health.
